Balance Your Blood pH Level with Essential Oils

by Dr.Chadi Abi-Ghosn

To specify the acidity or alkalinity of an aqueous solution, pH (potential of Hydrogen) is used in chemistry. It is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. Solutions with a pH less than 7 are acidic and solutions with a pH greater than 7 are alkaline. Pure water is neutral with a pH level of 7. Our blood pH level should be 7.35 and 7.45.

In the early 1900’s Nobel laureate Dr. Otto Warburg concluded that the root cause of cancer is oxygen deprived acidic tissue and that diseases cannot survive in an alkaline body.

The following factors contribute to blood acidity:

  • Excessive consumption of acid-forming foods and drinks such as processed meats, high-sodium foods, fried foods, dairy products, refined sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and soft drinks.
  • Exposure to chemicals: Since the beginning of the industrial age, over 100,000 unnatural chemical compounds have been created which can disturb our pH balance and contribute to blood acidity. These chemicals are found in the air we breathe, the soil our plants are grown in, and in the products we consume such as cigarettes, medications, deodorants, perfumes, oral care products, shampoos, and cosmetics.
  • Stress, anxiety, and sleeping problems

An increase in blood acidity can overwhelm the body’s acid-alkaline control systems (kidneys and lungs), cause the blood to become overly acidic, and create a condition called acidosis.

Acidosis can cause short-term health problems such as headaches, fatigue, joint pain, and nausea, but also more serious health conditions such as arthritis, cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis.

How to restore a proper pH and how can essential oils help?

To help your body balance your pH levels, you should:

  • Exercise regularly
  • Manage your stress levels
  • Reduce exposure to chemicals and use natural products whenever possible
  • Reduce your intake of acid-forming foods and drinks and increase your intake of alkaline-forming foods and drinks such as fruits and vegetables, olive oil, raw almond, green tea, and maple syrup.

Essential oils, the most powerful natural extracts with outstanding health benefits, can help achieve an optimal pH level.

Lemon essential oil is pH neutral, highly alkalizing, and helps with heartburn. Extracted from the rind of the fruit, it has a much stronger alkalizing effect than lemon juice, is absorbed easier than lemon juice, and does not damage your teeth’s enamel. You can put two drops under your tongue once daily.

Lemon essential oil is also a natural and safe teeth whitener, due to its neutral pH, unlike lemon juice which is acidic, and baking soda which is alkaline. Daily for one week, add a single drop of lemon oil to your toothbrush and brush your teeth.

Lavender essential oil is effective for stress relief. It has great calming and relaxing properties. For a good night’s sleep, add one drop to your pillow at bedtime.

The antibacterial and antifungal properties, combined with its floral scent, make Palmarosa essential oil a great natural antiperspirant and deodorant. One drop applied to clean armpits with clean hands does the trick.

Tea tree essential oil has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties; making it a natural antimicrobial. It can be applied to the skin to disinfect and heal injuries.

Jasmine, neroli, patchouli, rose, sandalwood, and ylang-ylang essential oils can all be mixed with a carrier oil such as jojoba and used as natural perfumes.

Sweet basil essential oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. It can be used for daily oral care as a natural mouthwash and can replace toothpaste. Add a few drops to water to use it as a mouthwash and just one drop on your toothbrush instead of toothpaste. This can also help to protect your teeth and gums.

Look for essentials oils of high quality that are 100% natural and pure from a reputable supplier. If you suffer from any medical conditions, consult with your health professional before using essentials oils.

A balanced blood pH level is essential to restore and protect our health from the inside out. Essential oils can help balance blood pH levels and bring about overall emotional and physical well-being.
