Daily Laughter Practices for Health and Happiness
With all the challenges we are facing, from passing through a pandemic to going back to what we called ‘’normal living’ ’and the continuous changes we are passing through, wellbeing has become a priority for individuals as well as corporations, and without having the right tools and skills in place moving forward would be so hard and sometimes even impossible.
Laughter is one of those well-being tools that as the saying goes is like a windshield wiper, it does not stop the rain but will help us move forward. It is important that May the 1st has been dedicated to celebrating it across so many Countries.
Several Scientific Studies has been done across the world that left us with no doubt that laughter has a powerful and profound effects on the human body and mind, from decreasing the stress level to improving Productivity (More on that in my previous article), but without practicing laughter and integrating it in our day to day activities, knowledge remains knowledge and Scientific studies becomes history.
To feel and experience the effects of laughter we need to Practice it.
Seven tips that help you add more laughter to your daily life:
- Set an intention to laugh more. Everything we desire starts with an intention, it helps us be more focused on what we want and how we want to feel in each moment, add this to your intention daily list: ‘’I intend to laugh more’’
- Play with kids. Children laugh naturally at anything, playing with kids will help you activate and connect with your inner child. The more you connect with your inner child the more laughter comes naturally to you
- Smile often. If you don’t want to force it to start by just smiling, this will activate the ‘’feel good’ ’centers in your brain. Choose to smile at strangers and experiment with how you feel afterward.
- Follow people that make you laugh. Social Media has become an integral part of our daily activities, it connects us to people from all over the world, yet we have the choice to control who we are, and choose to follow accounts that make us laugh, like comedians, memes, etc.
- Surround yourself with laughter quotes. Words have a huge impact on our minds, some words can put you down, while others can lift you and send this sense of excitement in your whole body, reading daily quotes on laughter can help you be aligned with your daily intention to laugh more. One of my favorite quotes is by Charlie Chaplin: “A Day spent without laughter is a day wasted”.
- Watch a comedy show. If watching TV is something you enjoy, choose to watch your favorite comedy show or Funny programs to activate your laughter centers.
- Try joining a Laughter Wellness session/Workshop. In laughter sessions, you get the chance to experience laughter as well as connect with like-minded people. If there are no laughter sessions in your area you can try online options.
The mentioned tips and practices might not solve your problems, or have you hit higher digits in your bank account, but certainly, they will help you feel more at peace and good about yourself, and when you feel good about yourself, you most probably will take the right steps towards a happier, healthier life.
